          The breadth of this CCIE test is amazing. You are expected to understand wide range of networking technologies, LAN, WAN, Dial, routing protocols, such as RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP; also routed protocols, such as IPv4, IPv6 and more on Cisco router and switch operation. There is a bias towards older technology, as if to ensure that applicants are prepared to meet real world installs, rather than just playing with the newest technology. Unlike the Cisco CCNP/CCDP tests, where you can study an area of networking to pass a specific test, the Cisco CCIE R&S Written expects you to know materials from a wide range of networking technologies.
