In a large enterprise computing environment, Presentation Server farms may serve dozens of applications to users, and whether it’s through the Web Interface or an Access Gateway portal, many applications have independent passwords that need to be remembered by the users, in addition to their basic network passwords.
External web applications used for businesses also have their own private authentication systems, and passwords that need to be remembered. After providing secure access to applications through a Citrix access infrastructure, the need for users to remember dozens of passwords becomes an obstacle to secure access.
Either the users can’t remember their passwords, and have to call a help desk every day to have them reset, or the users have notebooks, or post-its, that are full of user credentials for secure systems, which is a big hole in the overall security architecture.
Every IT administrator has a list of secure passwords to various systems, and every IT adminsitrator has another method of storing it. There are SQL databases full of administrative passwords, encrypted, but opened with a single password of a few characters. There are text files on servers, full of administrative passwords. There are printed lists of passwords sitting on tables in IT rooms.
Citrix Password Manager 4.5 is a separate component of the Presentation Server 4.5 Platinum, designed to overcome these challenges in security and accessibility, by implementing a single-sign-on (SSO) management system that’s integrated with Presentation Server.
