CTX-1012AI - EdgeSight 4.2: Application Performance Monitoring and Analysis

This course provides learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to use EdgeSight 4.2 to monitor various components of systems including applications, hardware devices and the network. Students will learn how to proactively identify potential performance problems, quickly evaluate reported issues, and conduct historical analysis through flexible reporting.

Providing applications effectively and efficiently to users requires, among other things, the ability to monitor and measure the "end user experience".

The EdgeSight product from Citrix provides the opportunity to become proactive, collecting and analyzing performance statistics from across the spectrum of the user's involvement with their apps and their data.

The "edge" in "sight" is the end-point, so-to-speak. The end-point is either the client device, if there are things managed locally on the client device, or the Presentation Server, if everything is running through the ICA connection. EdgeSight is a SQL 2005 server, with Reporting Services and Visual Studio and IIS, and the EdgeSight software installed, and is managed through a console that is accessed via https. EdgeSight uses dashboards and visual reports, helping Citrix-trained engineers identify underlying trends, showing the back-end of network traffic not previously seen in Citrix management utilities, as well as comprehensive use of deep PerfMon statistics that have been available for some time, but rarely used in most implementations.

Audience

This course is intended for administrators and IT staff who use an already deployed EdgeSight environment to provide ongoing support for users and systems, including individual desktop endpoints as well as Citrix Presentation Server

Upon successful completion of this course, learners are able to perform the following:

Identify the key components of EdgeSight, and explain how it works.
Use the web console, including effective navigation and data filtering to find key information.
Configure EdgeSight, including creating groups, managing alerts and configuring agents.
Use EdgeSight specifically for monitoring Citrix Presentation Server
Create custom reports
Demonstrate common uses for EdgeSight in a production environment, including scenarios such as triage, capacity planning, application rollouts, and license compliance.

Note: This course does not include initial installation and deployment of EdgeSight.
