Why should students attend this combo instead of the CTX-1259 course?

The CTX-1259AI instructor-led class itself covers the features of Presentation Server 4, but does not completely prepare the student for a real-world implementation. Rather, it prepares them to administer an already-existing PS 4.5 server farm.

The students do install the Presentation Server in the classroom, and manage the server farm with the Citrix utilities. But there are two critical pieces that are not included in a CCA course: Microsoft Active Directory profiles and Group Policy issues from the point of view of “Citrix Best Practices”.

 Without a solid understanding of these issues, a Citrix implementation of anything more then one server will only temporarily work, and will eventually become a more-and-more expensive mess. What we offer at UNITEK is an opportunity to learn how to build the network properly from the beginning, thereby avoiding significant future difficulties. This is done by adding a single extra day on the end of the 1259AI which covers Active Directory, as well as extensive monitoring, management, and optimization tips.

Again, this is done with custom slides and handouts exclusively available at UNITEK, as well as hands on exercises and examples that are included in the extra courseware. Any student planning to install or migrate to Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 on their own is highly encouraged to attend the additional day and receive the additional training materials.

Pre-Requisites

The new certification for Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 involves taking an exam, the CTX-259 Citrix Presentation Server 4.5: Administration (Available Q2 2007) test, ideally after completing a CTX-1259 class.But the CTX-1259 class does not include all the information for the test anymore. Instead, as a way to avoid overlap among the various Citrix classes, Citrix has offloaded some foundational concepts in what are now known as "e-learning" courses.There is an elearning course - the CTX-1455CW - which is required for the CCA or CCEA certification. It is an online, $100, 2 hour, internet-based e-learning experience. At the end of the course there is a review test. The CCA candiate must pass this online review test, in addition to the Prometric test, also $150 (e-learning and exam vouchers are not included in our pricing).The e-learning course covers Independent Management Architecture (IMA), Citrix Licensing Services and the License Management console (LMC), and the Access Management Console  (AMC) that spans farms and Citrix products.

The instructor-led class will touch on these topics, and any questions can be answered, but the instructor is not given 2-3 hours to go over the material. Rather, it is expected that the students will take the elearning course on their own BEFORE coming to the CTX-1259AI class, in order to get the most out of the learning experience.
