Advanced SUSE Linux Administration is the third course in obtaining the Novell Certified Linux Professional (CLP) certification. This course focuses specifically on Advanced aspects of Linux Administration using almost solely the command line.

Advanced SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (SLES 9) administration skills is designed to help students learn how to perform the following Linux system advanced administration tasks for SLES 9:

In this course, students will learn the basic SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (SLES 9) administration skills

Prerequisites:

Students should have experience with the following Novell courses:

  • Linux Fundamentals � Course 3036

  • SUSE LINUX Administration - Course 3037

Section 1: Install SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (SLES 9)

  • Perform the SLES 9 Base Installation Step

  • Perform the SLES 9 Configuration Step

  • Troubleshoot the Installation Process

Section 2: Configure the Network Manually

  • Understand the Linux Network Terms

  • Set Up Network Devices with the IP Tool

  • Save Device Settings to a Configuration File

  • Set Up Routing with the IP Tool

  • Save Routing Settings to a Configuration File

  • Configure Host Name and Name Resolution

  • Test the Network Connection with Command Line Tools

Section 3: Configure Network Services

  • Deploy OpenLDAP on a SLES9 Server

  • Configure a Apache Web Server

  • Configure a Samba Server as a File Server

Section 4: Secure a SLES 9 Server

  • Create a Security Concept

  • Limit Physical Access to Server Systems

  • Limit the Installed Software Packages

  • Understand the Linux User Authentication

  • Ensure File System Security

  • Use ACLs for Advanced Access Control

Target Students

While the primary audience for this course is the current Novell CNESM , or those with similar experience, who have completed the 2 previous courses in the Novell CLP curriculum, Linux professionals and administrators with experience in other operating systems can also use this course to help prepare for the Novell CLP Practicum.
