How does the MCSE: Server Infrastructure certification differ from the MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure certification?
Both the MCSE: Server Infrastructure certification and the MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure certifications require the MCSA: Windows Server 2012 certification as a prerequisite. The MCSE: Server Infrastructure certification focuses on how to design, build, manage, and run a highly efficient data center. The MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure certification focuses on how to deploy and manage desktops and devices, allowing flexible, consistent, and reliable access to corporate services.

How does the MCSE: Server Infrastructure certification differ from the MCSE: Private Cloud certification?
The MCSE: Server Infrastructure certification requires the MCSA: Windows Server 2012 certification as a prerequisite. The MCSE: Private Cloud certification requires the MCSA: Windows Server 2008 certification as a prerequisite. The MCSE: Server Infrastructure certification focuses on how to design, build, manage, and run a highly efficient data center. The MCSE: Private Cloud certification focuses on true infrastructure service capability, along with optimally managed application services within the data center. There are two MCSA certifications available on Windows Server. Which MCSA should I pursue? The MCSA certifications are prerequisites to achieve the MCSE certifications. Currently, the MCSA: Windows Server 2008 certification is the prerequisite for the MCSE: Private Cloud certification and the MCSA: Windows Server 2012 certification is the prerequisite for the MCSE: Server Infrastructure certification and the MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure certification.

Is there a specific exam I should start with to pursue a Windows Server 2012 certification?
Exam 70-410: Installing and Configuring Windows Server 2012 is the most logical starting point for pursuing a Windows Server 2012 certification. However, exams can be taken in any order, and if you have achieved either the MCITP: Enterprise Administrator certification or the MCITP: Server Administrator certification, you will want to start with the upgrade Exam 70-417.

Do Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certifications expire?
No.

I have an MCITP on Windows Server 2008 certification. How can I upgrade to an MCSE: Server Infrastructure certification or the MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure certification?
Customers who have achieved an MCITP on Windows Server 2008 certification will be able to earn an MCSE: Server Infrastructure certification or MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure certification by passing three exams. To upgrade from an MCITP: Enterprise Administrator 2008 certification or an MCITP: Server Administrator 2008 certification to the MCSE: Server Infrastructure certification, candidates must pass Exams 70-417, 70-413, and 70-414. To upgrade from an MCITP: Enterprise Administrator 2008 certification or an MCITP: Server Administrator 2008 certification to the MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure certification, candidates must pass Exams 70-417, 70-415, and 70-416.
